Why do animals produce more young than humans

Answers:
Because they don't live as long ***It has to do with investment made in time and effort, (nutritional need, size of foetus/egg) in pregnancy and/or time and effort in raising offspring to independence eg most fish females produce tiny eggs in large numbers and they are off. Elephants take so long to produce a viable offspring and as an animal with a high intelligence and strong social bonds and etiquette, as well as travelling large distances following food and water through the different seasons, the babies take a long time to reach sexual maturity and must learn by heart the waterholes, the different spots for seasonal feed and the places to go if flooded and if in drought. Most higher intelligence, higher socialisation animals also have an overlap, so that daughters born earlier, though theoretically independant, learn baby care from watching mother and extended family. With fish, they have 300? eggs at a time, for little investment and 1 or 2 live to breed. With elephants, it might only be once in 7 years, but perhaps 1 of 3 live to breed. These aren't specific figures, just an example and even while nursing her new baby, the mother elephant will still be overlooking her older baby,as well.
I agree with a portion of this comment but mother nature is mother nature, wild animals breed as often as possible (excluding elephant) others do copulate several times to insure that the female is pregnant. I google and watch National Geographic and other Nature series as I love all wildlife and domestic.
