- Carolina Hurricanes (NHL) were originally called the New England Whalers (WHA) and played in the Boston Garden however they wanted to create an identity for themselves and not live in the shadow of the NHL's Bruins. They would move from Boston to Springfield, CT to to Hartford, CT where they would be renamed the Hartford Whalers and absorbed into the NHL. In 1994, they relocated down to Carolina.
- The Dallas Stars (NHL) also have an interesting history. The California Golden Seals relocated to Cleveland following financial trouble. After 1 year of Cleveland, the franchise merged with the Minnesota North Stars, which would later relocate to Dallas.
- In 1972, Kansas City would be awarded an NHL expansion franchise. It would last only 2 year relocating to Denver for a short period of time before finally coming to its current location of New Jersey. The team is now known as the New Jersey Devils.
- Finally, the Quebec Bulldogs joined the NHL in 1919. They would relocate to Hamilton in 1920 and then New York in 1925.
