It is it's own country. It is the smallest Asian country based on population and land mass. It also has the lowest altitude (ground level) in the world. It has an economy based on tourism and was hurt very badly after tsunami. The government began an economic reform program in 1989 to try to help the country, but they continue to struggle with their economy.
